Mahatma Montessori Higher Secondary School, Baba Building, Madurai, is a co-educational school. The school offers classes from Kinder garten to Grade XII. The medium of instruction for all classes is English.
Mahatma Montessori Matriculation Higher Secondary School follows Tamil Nadu Government Common Curriculum for both SSLC (Grade X) and Higher Secondary (Grade XII).
Assessment of the knowledge acquired is based on frequent observation of the students’ participation in school activities, their interest, interaction, and classroom behavior. Classes IV to XII will have unit tests every week. Classes IV to IX will have regular Formative Assessment and Summative Assessment. Classes X, XI and XII will have monthly tests.
At the end of each term, Progress Report is issued to classes IV to XII. Every month the students’ monthly test performance will be reported to parents.
We use Jolly Phonics in our Kindergarten classes to teach English sounds. Jolly Phonics is a fun and child centred approach to teaching literacy through synthetic phonics. It uses the multi-sensory method which is motivating the children and teachers, who can see their students achieve. Using a synthetic phonics approach, we teach children the five key skills for reading and writing.
Our Library has a plethora of more than 50,000 books, hundreds of CDs/DVDs and many audio and videotapes. Students can choose from a variety of books, periodicals, journals and newspapers. We have provision for a comfortable audio-visual room and reprographics facility. An array of computers is available with networking, facilitating the access to various national and international libraries.
Mahatma is proud to have established a Language Lab with a latest technology. The school brings Language Learning as an exceptional experience. This language lab forays into successful implementation of noble teaching methods to cultivate effective spoken skills into the students.
Student material production including the use of audio – visual materials is an important activity among the faculty staff. The language lab of the school with the facilities of audio and video recording and analysis is very useful for this purpose.
